I would be lying if I said it didn’t take me forever to get through Stephen Kings novel Fairytale. Six hundred pages, man. It moved so, so slow, that I contemplated even getting to the end of it. After I powered through I have simply decided that it was okay. It definitely wasn’t my favorite King novel.
I fear, Stephen Kings novel Fairytale was boring. I am normally a pretty big fan of Stephen King’s writing. I have even read his memoir, On Writing, twice. There were a lot of side stories that I felt lead to nowhere, I found the age of the main character to be unrealistic and the “explanation” at the end to be tacky. It felt like he was telling not showing and you’re favorite character is hardly in the book!
That being said there was a lot of aspect about it that I did like. I enjoyed the connections to both The Grimm Fairytales and The Hunger Games. I enjoy the type of person the main character was just not what his age was. Stephen King has a way with horror, “the gray” haunted me every single time I put the book down.
As a writer I can always learn from Stephen Kings writing because he is just so talented. Controversial, but talented. Fairytale wasn’t my favorite, I wonder if I would have had a better experience if I tried the audiobook while reading. I probably won’t be picking it up again, I’m much more prompted to grab The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon.
